A real estate businessman in Chennai arrested following actor Gautami’s complaint of cheating
Ms. Gautami alleged that two men, who had facilitated of Chennai the sale of a property for her in 2015, misappropriated a major chunk of the money
On Friday, November 3, 2023, the Central Chennai Crime Branch in Chennai’s Entrustment Document Fraud (EDF) Wing detained a real estate entrepreneur after former BJP member and actor Gautami Tadimalla filed a complaint alleging defrauding.
According to police, Ms. Gautami stated in her complaint that she intended to sell her 8.63-acre property in Kottaiyur village, Tiruvallur District, in 2015. To help with the property’s sale, two people—Balaraman from Anna Nagar and Raghunathan from Chengalpattu—stepped forward. They got Ms. Gautami to provide them a power of attorney. After that, they gave her ₹4.10 crore after selling her property to M/s Jaya Hind Investments Pvt. Ltd., a Mumbai-based business.
But according to Ms. Gautami, she didn’t learn that Balaraman and Raghunathan had sold her homes for ₹12 crore, paid her ₹.4.10 crore, and kept the remaining amount for themselves until she received a letter from the Income Tax Department in 2021. She claimed that they had thus deceived her.
Under the command of Assistant Commissioner S. John Victor, a police force apprehended J. Balaraman, 64, of Anna Nagar West, who was one of the fugitives. His custody was remanded to the judiciary.
