BMRCL Runs Tests On Extended Green Line
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has begun a trial run of rolling stock on Namma Metro’s Green Line, spanning from Nagasandra to Madavara (BIEC)
Officials aim to start commercial operations on the three km line along Tumakuru Road by Oct. The elevated corridor has been constructed by BMRCL under Metro Phase II. Recently, BMRCL announced a curtailment of services beyond Peenya to Nagasandra for certain hours to facilitate various tests on the extended line. BL Yeshwanth Chavan, chief PRO of BMRCL, said, “On Saturday, we conducted rolling stock tests on the line. Signalling and other tests will follow in the coming days. There is a plan to conduct tests at night to minimise the curtailment of services on Green Line. We’re hoping that by Sept, we complete the required tests and obtain safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety.”
The completion of pending works at Madavara station, which commenced late, is crucial for opening the line. Apart from Madavara, there are two more stations on the line at Chikkabidarakallu and Manjunath Nagar. In the past, BMRCL has missed several deadlines for opening this small stretch because of various factors. The opening of the line is expected to increase Metro ridership by 25,000 to 30,000.
